Artist Statement

I am constantly challenged to achieve excellence and strive to create items of enduring beauty and individuality.  For my method of construction, I chose the inventiveness of hand-building, oftentimes braving the difficulties of porcelain, even for Raku.  The beauty of a Rakued porcelain vessel is outstanding.

I enjoy experimentation, not being bound to any technique or form.  For glazing and firing, I prefer Raku, although I do use gas, soda, electric and wood firing.  Each has it's own beauty.   But I always return to Raku.  I love to experience the jubilation of having a vessel survive the thermal shock of the Raku process.  I love the immediate excitement of watching the magical color development of a successful firing.

BIOGRAPHY:

In a previous life, Karen Case was a math teacher, a practicing tax attorney specializing in criminal and civil tax litigation, and the former Secretary of Revenue for the State of Wisconsin. She is an avid garden and an ARS Certified Rose Judge.

In 1997, she retired to Florida. She sought art and was drawn to pottery for the feel of the clay, similar to the clay garden soil of Wisconsin.  She experimented with techniques and incorporated Eastern Simplicity, together with garden influences in her personal style.

She has received numerous awards in All Media/Juried Exhibitions.  Her work appears in "500 Bowls", a Lark Ceramic Book. Inc.  See Links to Galleries, Shows & Exhibits on Karen-Case.com
